Wozza

Saw a post on BMX Talk about Wozza's skills, this is from the second main from Cheddar on the Monday. I suppose we can only imagine what would happen if he got his gates and training down...

Cheddar Report: James

For me Christmas came early (or late depending on how you at it) when a huge box from Alans arrived with all my gear for the new season.

1 Giro Remedy helemet for which i was plesently suprised on how light it was a more importantly how well it fitted.
Thor race pants and two race tops all logoed up, both of which were again a perfect fit and comfortable.

Next up were the Shimano DXR Cranks, DX Pedles and brakes , as you would expect from Shimano they all fitted perfectly (and easily) and the chain line is perfect.

So it was of to the first National at Chedder, for sure 30 -39 was again going to be one of the toughest classes out there with quarter finals on both days. I took a knock in my second moto which held me back and I missed making the A main but got a 2nd in the B.
The second day, I felt more comfortable with my gates and won my first moto and this carried on to making the main but had gate 7, unfortunatly CJ visited me in my lane before the end of the ten meter (again missed by the officials) and i had to brake which finished my race but passed Neil to get 7th.

It seems that the team has carried on where it left off last year and is at the top of the Team rankings for which is down purly to the determination of each rider to do their best.

I would like to take this oppertunity in welcoming aboard Jack, Charlotte and Lewis to the team.

Cheddar Report: Arran

General report on the equipment
This season Alans/ShimanoDXR is buy far looking the most factory, let’s hope the result are as good as last year.
After riding for Alans since the start of his race team this is with out a doubt the best deal so where do I start:
I have always use bits and bobs the shimano use but fir the first time it’s the full deal, the crank look amazing and work really well when running the shimano chain rings there is little/ no tight spot now that a first for bmx bikes I am sure. The hubs all I can say is who needs Chris kings when you got these!! So smooth running almost silent what more do you want. As most people will agree our bikes this year are wired!
On to the kit:
Carbon fibre helmet is a first for me and what a way to start the helmets are looking well good and go with the kit nicely, at the end of the day its just a helmet there for protection, but when they look that good no one want to fall wearing one of those.
Like ever year the kit is looking trick, must have been a night mare to print all those sponsors but hay I didn’t do it and boy they look sweet.
Lastly no one likes ride in the sokin’ wet but trust me your bike will hold you fine!!
When I raced at Royston it hamered it down but the bike was running as if it was a lovely summers day no problems
Cheers Mike and Alan wicked deal this year

Cheddar report: Charlotte

I am so lucky to be on alans BMX race team. Everyone is so welcoming especially as it is my first year riding for alans.
The first race of the season and I was really nervous, but the support I received from alans BMX/Shimanio DXR race team really helped to give me the confidence to win.
I love my Supercross I.S. pro frame to bits it is such a wicked colour. It’s easy to manual and jump because its so light.
I was so surprised when I found out that I was going to have the same colour bike as Sammy Cools the ABA champion.
The Shimano DXR cranks are so light and easy to spin because the bearings rear hub and chain drive are beautifully engineered and built (so my dad says) I just think they are so smooth.
I love the vans clothing and shoes we’ve been given. Everything is top quality and very comfortable to wear when we are relaxing. The energy drink worked really well as I felt like I had lots of energy over the two days of racing.
The remedy CF helmet that I received from Giro is so much lighter than my old helmet as my old one was made from polycarbonate. The Thor race kit that I have is really strong, light weight material that provides excellent protection and I love the colour.
Fenwicks Bike cleaner is so easy to use and leaves the bike clean and sparkling. A definite psychological advantage when you are on the gate!
Charlotte.
Note: Charlotte reglected to mention that she won both days in her new older age group!

Cheddar Report: Lewis Hipkins

The racing was really good it was tough as i am riding up in the 8s to make me faster for the worlds in Canada ,but i made the A final on monday so im happy im looking to get top 5 this year in the older age group.
My moms just booked a villa near disney in Oct so i can race the ABA national (The Disney Cup) so i cant wait.
The Thor race gear felt really light even when it was wet in the rain ,i had some new vans trainers for the weekend and never slipped my pedal once so they are ace. It was a good job we all use odi lock on grips cause it poured down with rain on the monday so no slippy grips for us!
Lewis

Cheddar Report: Jack Clarke

I thought that my bike was great. I am also really pleased with my new riding gear. Even though I had bad luck in my finals, I know that I tried my best all weekend.

I am looking forward to doing all the other nationals with the team.

I would like to thank the whole team for their support and friendliness at Cheddar.

Thanks also to Roy Sutton for sorting out my wheel after my crash on Sunday. - Many thanks Roy.

Jack

NOTE: Jack had a coming together with another rider whilst in second on Sunday and slipped his pedals while leading on Monday. Just before the final I noticed he still had the very sort pins that come ready installed in the DX platform pedals, but it was too late to change (this job can take an hour). If you run these pedals I suggest you check the pins, the extra set you get with them are the longer ones.

Cheddar Report: Alix Deakin

The Bike
We decided to Change the Gearing on Alix's bike for this season as he needs to "spin out more" .A New Tangent 43 tooth front sprocket had been ordered and was duly fitted to the new Shimano DXR crank assembly. This beautifully manufactured crank was easily fitted compared to some other cranks I could mention. This along with the Shimano hubs, 16 tooth
free wheel and Shimano Chain provided reliable service all weekend. Alix's Avent Frame in special addition Black really looked the part alongside the highly polished Shimano components. A Gusset seat has also been fitted and wore well even after a few incidents on the track, proving it's high quality. We have also changed to Tioga Competition X Tyres for this year complementing the new Gusset Rims that have been knocked up by Alans Custom wheel building service, 'Perfect'. We feel the tyres are the best available giving good grip on the Burms even in Damp conditions. ODI Lock on grips proved superb in the wet conditions, I lost count of the people coming to our workshop area asking for advise on how to keep there grips on. The team had no such problems!! Giro provided the Team with Excellent Carbon helmets, these proved to be Light and comfortable, after we had 'stickered' them up they truly looked the part getting many favourable comments

The Mud
When the weather changed we had another problem to contend with, Dirty Bikes. This is a topic that a certain 'Alan Woods' loses sleep over !!! You see Alan s likes his BMX bikes to look immaculate, and why not ? This is where the Fenwicks products came into there own. 15 Bikes coming back one after the other need s a lot of manpower to clean them , but with the Fenwicks cleaning solution you just spayed it on and washed it off !!. This product left the bikes Gleaming!, amazing !!

Dehydration
All these youngsters need to drink plenty to keep Hydrated. This is where another one of our sponsors has yet again come good. Be- Well have supplied us with Drinks powder that went down well 2 tubs were consumed, so it proved popular and everyone enjoyed it keeping the team at peak
performance.

Alix's results
National 1 17+ 2nd in 'B' Final
16-29 Cruiser 2nd in 'A' Final

National 2 17+ 8th in 'A' Final (Crashed while 3rd)
16-29 Cruiser 1st in 'A' Final ( just Brilliant)

We will do even Better next time!!

Thor MX Celebrates 40 Years

Thor MX Celebrates 40 Years
- press release -

THOR MX celebrated 40 years as the leader in the motocross apparel industry by throwing a little party at the Primm Motocross Museum in Las Vegas, NV on May 4th. The event was held during the same weekend as the final SX race of the 07 series. In attendance were legends of the sport, Torsten Hallman, Roger DeCoster, Rick Johnson, Greg Albertyn and Jeremy McGrath. Joining them in the celebration were current Champions Chad Reed, Ivan Tedesco, Ryan Villopoto and Ben Townley.

THOR showcased gear from the last 40 years, including the goat-skin leathers and open face riding helmets that put THOR on the map worn by Hallman and DeCoster. Each rider walked the championship bikes of his era onto the stage for some Q & A. Many riders spoke about the growth of motocross and how it’s progressed over the past 40 years. “Back in the 70’s people didn’t even know the word ‘motocross’. Now there aren’t many people that haven’t heard of motocross in some way, shape or form,” Torsten recalls.

Today, motocross is dominated by ballistic nylon pants, carbon fiber helmets and riders like Chad Reed, Travis Pastrana, Ivan Tedesco and Ryan Villopoto. THOR has continued to fuel the progression of motocross by stepping up the design and performance every year. THOR unveiled a few new colors from the 2008 product line being released in August. The release of the ’08 line will mark THOR’s 40 year in the industry and celebrate how far the brand and the industry have come.

Keep your eyes open for THOR’s all-new mx gear and apparel at your local dealer this August.

Joey in MBUK

Joey Gough who we co-sponsor with Supercross parts, Thor gear, Tangent plates and a bit of wheelbuilding had a huge multi-page feature in May - I think - issue of MBUK. Way to go Joey. Too bad I hadnt had her shirt printed at that point - doh! Joey should be racing the Bouremouth Nats so look out for her!

Alans BMX/Shimano DXR team does the business

A big well done to all our riders for two great days of racing!! I will put in a full report later, still unpacking the van!!
For everyone to make the mains on Monday was a fantastic result. You did Alans and our sponsors proud.Iam fairly sure we will be leading the team points standings! The only downer was some shocking refs decisions that excluded Arran and knocked back Lewis Hipkins a place.
Still lets keep up the momentum for Bournemouth.

something for the weekend??

Well our team raced at the weekend at the Cheddar track which was fast downhill and great fun.. Wozza turned out and murdered the opposition even unclipping the semis going back to third and getting first. In fairness he hadnt a great deal of competiton(except me) yes in one race it was Alex Deakin/ Wozza/ me. a sea of yellow. I stayed with them for 20 metres then got left on the tricky stuff. I gave the talent team boys something to worry about though.Well for 20 metres.Check pic of my shirt!!!

Charlotte did great after falling in her first moto and had some good battles. Arran rode smooth and stylish gaining a 3rd place.
Lewis Hipkins was the berm king winning and going so fast around the last berm he was power sliding..Alex didnt make the main he unclipped and just missed out( to much womanising can do that).

James Christie rode brilliant after his return from stateside training and gained a 2nd in the main. Iam not sure how Katie did but she looked comfortable. Only missing men where Euro number 3 Bradley Minns taking a break after Europe and Jack Clarke resting his knee.
Check the pics sent from Chaz.

see ya Mike
