thoughts

Hiya to everyone, well ive got to admit ive been a little unfocused since the brits..It was my first experience of this one off race and iam not sure what it tries to do!
You can slog away all season and win the nationals then someone comes along wins one race and can call themself British Champion and gets the glory..?
We ended up fourth in the team points but if Jake Ferguson hadnt been robbed by the worst ruling ever and Warren hadn't lost the front..ah well. Thats BMX.

I know iam going to give the masters a run for there money next season.

Actually now is a time to reflect on what you want to achieve for next year. Do you want to get better technique? Faster starts? more power? Whats your overall goal? To be British Champion, national Champion? world champion? You need to have a goal!! Any sucessful athlete has a goal and a plan.
All of YOU are capable of being Champions. Thats why you are sponsored. Iam going to repeat this time and time again.. "dont beat yourself before you get to the startline" your all winners. Just start believing it.

These next few months is where the work begins. Keep your GOALS in mind to keep you motivated.

Iam going to keep you updated on winter training with some excercises programs etc..Winter is the time to put in the hard work. Its when you can train with weights and body resistance excercises to build up the core strength. I will post some plans soon.
Try and do a bunch of other stuff. Go swimming do some park riding.Just keep it fresh on your bike. Just have fun as always.
Iam going to be riding skateparks again. I ride my roadbike to keep the mileage in my legs.

On the sponsorship front things are moving along with pace..We should be able to make an announcement soon. Its going to mean everyone going that extra 10% with us next year (meaning its now 110%) things will step up a gear. Both in appearance of the team and whats expected.
Its exciting times to be part of the number one team.

see ya all soon Mike

ps, i will leave you with this quote.

"If we did all the things that we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves."

Harworth Tips and stuff

Hi again, well its nearly that time. The BRITS...you should all be ready at this point? the training should be all but over. Its time to FOCUS..

I did some sprint training last night at a unused industrial estate. basically just rolling to a stop then sprinting for 50 metres. I was shattered after 30 mins giving myself around 3 mins recovery time after each sprint and drinking SIS energy drink. I dont think unless you are in a group how you could do more unless you dont put in 100%? It really takes it out of your legs. So now i will rest for at least two days. Just doing some spin work on the rollers. Remember if you do this training its important to get at least 24/48 hours to let your muscles recover. So take it easy or else you can actually go backwards in terms of development. REST IS IMPORTANT TO..

I rode Harworth a couple of times before i did some coaching with the bcf last week. The tracks looking great they have tarmaced the first jump and the first berm and generally tidied the place right up. The start hill is wide with big lanes but its seems like you are at a disadvantage if you are on the outside. coming into the first jump. All the more reason to explode out of that gate and never give in..This is bmx racing and anything can happen.
You have to be smart figure out alternate lines if you are pushed out of your ideal line. The berms offer some good angles and with it being a nice mix of jumps and manual stuff you can keep the pressure on.
Dont murder your self in practice. Save it for the race. As far as iam concerned a good gate in practice isnt that important. For sure practice the sequence but if you have bad ones in practice never worry its the race that counts.
Remember to crank in between everything. If you gain one yard then by the end it can become two or three bike lengths!!

Next season is looking brighter than ever and we should be able to make an announcement soon as to the sponsors involved in our team. One things for sure its going to step up a gear so we are going to need 110% from every rider both on and off the bike.
We will have the team number one t-shirts and i would like some team pics for sponsors. probably on saturday with shirts race gear all looking spick and span. polish those bikes and make sure all the stickers look good for the weekend. I will have some with me and i will give them out to all.
So remember to focus on winning, your all capable of it.

See you at the track..Mike

New Supercross Evo iS frames on the way!

• The iS is a more affordable version of the popular Evo G6 frame (so popular in fact that we couldn't keep 'em in stock most of the year!).

• Price is just 209.99 (the G6 is 299.99).

• For now it will be offered in these sizes: Mini, Junior, Expert, Pro, Pro XL, Pro XXL and Pro 24.

• Colours are Gloss Black, Gloss Blue, Pearl White, High Polish and Limited Edition Pink.

• Our first shipment is due just before the Brits but we expect this first shipment to go fast, so call us now if you want one (01942 826598). Lewis and Jake Ferguson will get the first two in the country.

• The iS Series is only 1 ounce heavier on average than the G6's and it is almost impossible to tell them apart. We will offer the G6 for a while longer while stocks are available, but when the iS and the new high-end Scandium S-7 frames reach regular production the iS will fully replace the G6. Sammy Cools has been riding a proto S-7 frame and it is amazing by all accounts; on average the S-7 is 3/4lb lighter than the G6 (which was already the lightest frame on the market). Our newest alansbmx.com team rider W7 Lewis Hipkins will have the first S-7 in the UK (before Christmas). Due to the materials used the S-7 could well be double the price of an Evo iS, but we'll post more info as we get it.

See here for frame geometry.

keep it to yourself!!

Hi to all our riders, ive been thinking about a couple of tips you might be interested in trying before the Brits in two weeks.

"Wrong pedal" starts and start gate technique .

My theory with this is, we all start with our strongest foot!! So after the crank has done a quarter turn the propulsion is coming from technically our weakest leg. So to strengthen your starts, try wrong foot forward starts. Even if you feel slower you are pushing hard with your weaker leg and then compensating with your stronger leg. So effectively you are strengthening both legs which will improve your vital few power strokes on starts.

I guess we all have our own methods of how we suss the gate. I really recommend watching the gate and getting the Flinch!! During practice walk up and watch the sequence, imagine you are on the start ready for the off and as the sequence begins do the snap as if you are on your bike. This activates your muscle memory.Sounds a bit space age?? but its true most athletes go through a visualisation of what they will do in there particular event before they do it.
You may get a few strange looks but hey if you win races i can live with that!!

I filmed the gate sequence at Chesterfield on my digital camera and me and the Ferguson brothers Louis and Jake watched it on our way home on Saturday night. Louis won his race the next day and Jake got 2nd in the highly competitive 14 age group. Iam not saying it was down to this but it cant hurt having the sequence locked into your memory!
Try it in practice. Tell me what you think..

Recovery drink..

okay this is a top tip proven by Leeds university to aid recovery after using all your energy after a race meeting.

After you get home or ideally within 60 mins of finishing the event get your self some nesquik chocolate(or favourite flavour) milk powder and some dried skimmed milk powder. Mix two tablespoons of nesquik and one tablespoon of skimmed milk powder with say half a pint of skimmed fresh milk and hey presto enjoy!! Gives you protein, vitamins. Helps you recover.
Try it give me some feedback..

Ps during the meeting we should be drinking our GO SIS energy drink to keep hydrated and replace lost salts (electrolytes). This idea is purely an after race MEETING drink..

keep it trackside Mike
